Born to battle
Most young boys are drawn to martial arts and competition from an early age on, and Tom Niinimäki was no exception. Tom says he doesn't even remember things ever being otherwise. Tom's first experiences in combating date back to his childhood and yard wrestling. Casual competing with friends eventually changed to combat sports at the age of 15 in Turku. The year was 1997. Newspaper ads on self-defense and martial arts had caught Tom's eye.
Today, equipped with more experience, the man stepping into the ring is not easy to unbalance. Handling outside pressures and his own expectations has changed from weakness to one of his best assets.
”I have also changed my attitude from experience-seeking mixed martial arts into a more professional and methodical direction. It's still also fun of course!"
